We’re coming up on 6 months now of marriage, and life couldn’t be more amazing. There’s nothing better than trying, succeeding AND failing alongside the person I love the most in this world. Someone who knows my faults and loves me more because of them (someone that ISN’T my mom or dad ;) Haha), someone that puts me first always, someone who always calls before they say they’re going to, someone that is content with unpacking boxes and vacuuming floors as long as we’re unpacking boxes and vacuuming floors together.
We spent 6 months in our apartment and made the decision a few weeks ago, to move back in to his parents house… we have the whole downstairs to ourselves, and we are blessed to be able to save money, pay off some debt and settle into our bills and responsibilities as a married couple with all the ease that we could pray for. We look forward to buying our first house very soon and maintaining a healthy savings account for future babies and vacations. Not a lot of people have this opportunity; we’re so thankful for our supportive and selfless families and encouraging and prayerful friends.
Other than our living situation, work and church are both going great! Paul is in Chicago right now with Pastor and some of the media team, filming a big 3D Easter event… I’m so proud of him and this opportunity that he’s been given. He confronts everything in life head on, with passion and intensity; it’s one of the things I admire about him the most.
I am the Enrollment Coordinator at work now, which comes with a lot more responsibility than I’ve ever had… I admit, I’m adjusting, but I can only hope I’m doing it gracefully.
This started off as a pre-wedding blog, but I really hope to continue this throughout the years - to document landmark decisions, important events, lessons in marriage and possibly even some frustrations as they arise, as I’m sure they will. Looking back and reading where we came from promises to be an experience in itself.
writing my name, fourth-grade style. Complete with hearts and swirls and all! ;)
Also just got an email from my high school best friend, who is doing my hair, and I got all emotional and excited to be experiencing that with her.
God is so good. And I am a wreck.
I am at work, and Paul is moving me into our new apartment RIGHT NOW. I’m positively giddy.
Yesterday, Paul saw a spider on the wall behind me, while we were mid-conversation.
He kept talking, spun me around further and told me to stay with my back to the wall, while he ran into the bathroom for a second. Of course, I didn’t listen, turned around, saw the BIRD-SIZED spider above my pillow and had a breakdown.
But, he killed it in one quick, clean, mess-less motion - and down the toilet Charlotte went.
Husbands. are. AMAZING.
A couch! :) Stop laughing, it’s a big step. It’s the perfect combo of browns and beiges, and it’s cozy and microfiber and amazing. AND, I move into our new place in 9 days! Life is pretty lovely.
Taking a moment to look online for some fun toasting glasses for our wedding day, and I keep finding myself searching for keywords like ”gothic”, “vintage”, “black”, “goblet” and “midevil”. I’m scaring myself a little.
Just spent an amazing day planning, shopping, and all-in-all… checking things off our to-do list! I feel so exceptionally prepared right now, I can’t even handle it.
Abbie ran around with me all day, notebook paper in hand, checking things off one by one. Seriously, the list is getting smaller and smaller - I never thought it would happen! I am so blessed to have such an amazing family and built in support system all around me… I don’t know how I would be so calm if I didn’t.
20 days.
So, today: we bought Paul’s wedding band, guest book, glassware for the candy bar and the start of supplies for my bridesmaid’s gifts :)
I also discovered that I have turned over a new leaf, as of late. All I can think about is crafts, scrapbooking, cooking and decorating. I KNOW.
Am I nesting or something? This is outrageous. Who woulda thought that I would get so excited over Paula Deen’s Holiday Cookbook or the sights and smells of our local Pier 1 Imports? This isn’t me. I like things like coffee and books and screenprint tees and black pumps and oversized purses and boyfriend blazers and buy one get one half off costume jewelry from Target. Seriously, did I just do cartwheels down the aisle at Michael’s because I found black serving platters with a rhinestone ridge? And tell me, did I really this mentally budget out my next year’s worth of paychecks to take into consideration all of the Holiday decorating I would need to do?
I am so ready for this wife business. Bring it on.
This past weekend was such a blast in the Wedding Planning Department!
On Saturday, Mom and I went shopping for her “mother of the bride” outfit - she’s gonna look so good! We bought her an adorable belted black dress from Macy’s and then a few different belts, so we can have a lot of options for shoes/jacket/cardigan as we get closer to D-Day. I told her I think she needs to wear a sassy little cardigan from Nordstrom or something, so Mom obligingly picked out a Trina Turk cardigan on a whim as we walked back from lunch at the Nordstrom Cafe, and almost died when she saw the $380 price tag. I spent the rest of the afternoon talking her off the ledge, assuring her not every cardigan at Nordstrom was $380; I think we’re almost ready to give it another go. That, or H&M will have to suffice.
I also found an amazing necklace that I might wear, but still looking for a few other options. A newlywed friend told me that she wore thrift store costume jewelry in her super-glam photos, and I’ve never been so excited to grab some of my ‘maids and jet off to pillage our local Value Village for some treasures.
Then, Saturday night, mom and I spent the evening with Janet, Abbie & Maggie - bedazzling picture frames to scatter aorund the reception hall - 30 of them, front and back. At the end of the night, we were covered from head to toe with red, black and white diamonds, red feathers, red & black mesh ribbon and other various jewels and hot glue, but let me tell you - the frames are SO cute! Totally worth the third degree hot glue gun burns. In fact, I may even make this into a business, but more details on that later.
In other news:
- My dress is delayed at the designers (grr) but The Elegant Bride assures me that they know my date, and will have no issue getting it to me in plenty of time (pfhew)
- We are getting the groomsmen and dads and wedding kids situated; they are gonna look SO adorable. Can’t wait, seriously. Bowties, suspenders and baby Vans, OH MY!
- Invites - sent.
- Dress - en route.
- Honeymoon - booked.
It’s happening. It’s really, really happening.
